On Saturday 19 February 2011, Raglan will host the 21st National HOG (Harley Owners Group) Rally. Over 1000 HOG riders (which equates to approximately 600 motorcycles) are expected to take part in the Harley convention which is attracting both national and international riders.   Bookings are already coming in thick and fast for accommodation in Raglan.

The rally will be based at the soccer grounds of the Kopua Reserve.  A feature of the rally is the the THUNDER RIDE on Saturday morning with all HOGs taking part.  The rally started in 1990 at Mackays Crossing, Wellington.  Although its been to Hamilton three times,  2011 is the first time for Raglan.  Apart from Akaroa, Raglan is the smallest town it has been held in. Riders will begin arriving on Friday 18th and will depart on Sunday 20th.

Very hard to get accommodation for Rally. No one wants to stay 10+ks out of town and have to find there way back after a few drinks. Is there going to be shuttle buses to out of town accommodation?

Hi Bikerman,

The best place to coordinate accommodation needs is the Raglan Information Centre. Anthea, Rangi, Noeline or the volunteers will be happy to help you. Phone 07 825 0556, Email raglaninfo@xtra.co.nz

The main camping area in Raglan is the Kopua Holiday Park. It is right next to where the rally is being held. When the Kopua Holiday Park is full, the next area that is opened up for camping is the land around the Kokiri Centre on Riria Kereopa Drive. You can enquire about this with the Raglan Information Centre. There will be plenty of room in and around Raglan for everybody.

Regards,

Rodger

Anthea from the Raglan Information Centre says, “Thanks Rodger,

We are getting steady enquiries, I’m sure it will be fine.

Cheers

Anthea.”

It would appear that myself and many of my fellow riders may not attend this event as accommodation appears to already be in VERY short supply and frustration over getting responses from providers increases (obviously they are aware that they have a commodity that is hard to obtain) – any ideas that have not already been suggested for accommodation and or sensibly priced camping facilities would be appreciated

There is a quite a bit of accommodation in and around Raglan. It shows up on various accommodation web sites such as Bookabach, Holiday Homes, Holiday Houses and also on the accommodation page of this web site. If you can’t find what you after on these web sites then phone the Raglan Information Centre on 07 825 0556 or email them on raglaninfo@xtra.co.nz
