  • Raglan

Raglan Whaingaroa is a town on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. Part of the Waikato region, it is a 45 minutes west of Hamilton by car. It is best known for surfing and the arts. The world class surf beaches just south of the town attract surfers from around the world. Mount Karioi, the wild westerly wind and the harbour provide a setting that is the ideal catalyst for artistic creativity whether the art is painting, carving, weaving, writing, or music.

The Raglan Website reflects the Raglan NZ soul providing information for tourists and the local Whaingaroa community. You’ll find news, events, weather, tides and listings of local businesses, restaurants, accommodation providers and community service and support organisations.

The term of the Raglan Community Board is ending soon. The most common promise 3 years ago was better communication. So the poll question is, "Who is the best communicator?"

  • COMBINED ARTISTS Sam CunnaneCOMBINED ARTISTS Sam Cunnane

    Time: 10:00 am

Exhibition: 'See', by Artist: Sam Cunnane Exhibition on 28 August – 10 September 2010 Open Mon to Fri 10-2pm, Sat 11-1pm Combined Artist Studios and Gallery, 11 Bankart St, Raglan Ph Amanda for info 027 671 3320 About the show: See See is a collection of works in progress by Sam Cunnane. Through these ‘boring photos of the sea’ the artist explores how our sense of place is constructed as much from what we experience (or see) in (or from) a place as it is from what that place looks like itself. These photos are all shot from the same place – a lookout on the West Coast, just south of Raglan. The lookout itself is reasonably nondescript, but the view, the experience of being there, is significant for the artist. Tourist These two short videos – Frying Pan Lake and Wildlife Experience – arose out of a trip to Rotorua with a family member from the USA. The artist considers how New Zealand is presented for international consumption: easily accessed portions of wilderness, with a café and gift shop at the end of each short walk. -- Amanda Watson Artist & Curator www.amandawatson.com mob 027 671 3320 Studio Combined Artist Studios & Gallery 11 Bankart Street, Raglan www.artistsgallery.co.nz
