Services
A diverse range of services is offered including a Budget Service; subsidized Counselling; Advocacy; Bargain Basement, Drop-In Lounge and CV Writing Service.

Other services include photocopying; fax and phone access; bookings for transport to and from medical appointments in Hamilton; the provision of outreach offices for Community Law, Probation and a Hearing Therapist; low cost Frozen Meals; Wheelchair Hire; Room Hire; local information and public toilets.

Membership.  Becoming a Member of Raglan Community House is simple and there is no cost involved.  Complete the Membership Form (click here) and send or bring it to Raglan Community House.  Membership must be approved by the Committee.  Once approved your details will be added to the Membership List and you will be eligible to vote at Annual General Meetings.  The Constitution and Code of Ethics of Raglan Community House can be viewed here: Click for Code of Ethics Click for Constitution

Weight Loss Support Group The weight loss support group runs at the Community House every Wednesday at 4pm. Gold Coin donation. Guest speaker once a month. Contact Chrissy or Nicci on 825 8142 for more info

Meets every Monday, 6.45pm at the Community House.
All welcome. No bookings required.

Services

Bargain Basement, Raglan Community House

Bargain Basement
A large Bargain Basement takes up the whole of the bottom floor of the Raglan Community House.  It is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and on Market Saturdays until approximately 1.30pm.  Items of clothing, household utensils and bric a brac (in good condition) and magazines, DVDs, CDs and books etc are very gratefully accepted.  These can be dropped off at the House on weekdays between 9am and 4pm.

Community Law
The Hamilton Community Law office operates an Outreach Clinic here at Raglan Community House.  The purpose of the Community Law Office is to meet the unmet legal needs of the community.  A lawyer from the Hamilton Community Law Office visits Raglan each month on a Tuesday.  Three or more clients are necessary for them to make the trip out but phone consultations can be arranged if there are only one or two clients.  Consultations are free of charge although eligibility is dependent on income level. The areas of law covered are consumer, criminal offences, local government, debt, insurance, human rights, employment, fencing/neighbour issues, tenancy, immigration, ACC and WINZ.  Family law is not covered although some initial advice or information can be provided.  Phone Raglan Community House on 8258142 for more information or to make an appointment.

Drop In Lounge, Raglan Community House

Drop In Lounge
There is a warm and welcoming Drop In Lounge at Raglan Community House staffed by Volunteer Hosts.  Any member of the community (or any visitor) is welcome to call into the House for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat.  We also have magazines to browse or buy and books for sale ($1.00 hard back/.50c soft back) so call in anytime Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm to see us.  We are sometimes told that people don’t want to come in because they think we are having a meeting.  If you see folk sitting around the table in the Lounge you can guarantee that they are just enjoying a cup of tea or their lunch so please come in and join us!

Frozen Meals
We have a good selection of Frozen Meals available here at Raglan Community House.  Various dishes are on offer ranging from Large Meals of Roast Beef/Pork and Braised Sausages; Smaller Meals of Chicken/Beef Casserole and Savoury Mince and Desserts of Stewed Fruit and Custard, Rich Fruit Pudding and Cheesecake.  Large Meals are $9.00, Small Meals are $6.50 and Desserts are $4.50.  Meals can be purchased from the Raglan Community House any week day between 9am and 4pm.

Hearing Clinic
A Hearing Therapist, contracted to the charitable trust Life Unlimited, visits Raglan Community House on the first Monday of every month to provide free hearing therapy services to people aged 16years and over.  The Therapist offers independent advice on pathways available to assist with hearing loss including access to personal listening devices and amplified telephones.  They offer practical advice and management of tinnitis and can help with ACC or War Pension claims.  Bookings are essential.  Phone Raglan Community House on 8258142 to make an appointment for the next scheduled visit.

Community Car Boot Sales
Raglan Residents and Ratepayers Association oeprate Car Boot Sales in the Raglan Club carpark during summer months from 9am to 2pm.

Future dates are:

  • 14 January
  • 4 February
  • April (Date to be confirmed)

Sites are $5 per carpark space. Bookings can be made at the Raglan Community House or you can just turn up on the day.

Medical Transport
If you need transport to get to an appointment at Waikato Hospital or one of the associated clinics/specialists call Raglan Community House on 8258142 to make a booking for pick-up by the Community Trust van.  A donation of $15.00 for return transport to medical appointments is appreciated. If you have a day a week, fortnight or month in which you could offer your services as a volunteer van driver, please contact Michael Gill on 825 6532.  Current First Aid Certificate required and consent to a Police Check must be given.

Raglan Community House publishes a Newsletter several times a year.  Click here for the latest Newsletter and copies of past issues.

Optometrist
An Optometrist no longer visits Raglan Community House however we have entered into an arrangement with Paterson Burn, Optometrists in Hamilton whereby people referred to them from Raglan Community House are eligible for a discount voucher.  We can also book transport for you to visit the Optometrist using the Raglan Community Trust van.

Meeting Room, Raglan Community House

Room & Facility Hire
A 20+ seat meeting room with whiteboard, TV and video facilities is available for hire (days and evenings).  We also have a Lounge (evening hire only) and small interview rooms available.  Access to kitchen facilities can be given for an additional charge.  The meeting room, lounge and interview rooms can be hired by the hour, half day and day.  Click here for Facility Hire information.  Phone Raglan Community House 8258142 to make enquiries/bookings.

A Wheelchair is available for Hire.  Contact the Community House for more information.

Staff
There is a full-time Coordinator (Chrissy Hodkinson), a part-time Assistant Coordinator (Nicci Standley), part-time Administrator (Laura Geering), three part-time Budget Advisors (one of whom operates the CV Writing/ Assistance service on Thursday mornings); two contracted Counsellors and a part-time Cleaner.

Work and Income are now operating from the Raglan Community House at 45 Bow St, Raglan on a Tuesday from 10 – 12.30pm and 1.30 – 2.30pm. They can help with the following things:
  • Employment Information and Guidance
  • Emergency Special Needs Grants and Advances including Food Grants (these may be able to be done by phone also), Emergency Dental, Power Disconnection and Evictions
  • Collection of paperwork
  • Reviews (when circumstances have not changed)
  • Medical Certificates
  • Temporary Additional Support Reviews

Workshops
